Recently, a parent asked if I knew of any music streaming services that allow parents control over what is playing on the AirPods of their kids.
Given the lyrics that I recently heard at a girl’s high school soccer game last week, I wanted to delve further into the options available for parents — and coaches. (Come on, coaches, know the lyrics before Drake and Lil Wayne fill the stadium with F-Bombs and the N-word for all to hear during warm-ups.)
Below are some options that I think are worth considering.
The good news is that several music streaming services offer parental control features to ensure that children listen to age-appropriate content. Here are some of the most popular ones:
- Spotify:
Spotify offers a family plan that allows up to six members to share the same account. The primary account holder can set up explicit content filtering for each family member, ensuring that they only listen to clean versions of songs. Additionally, Spotify Kids is an exclusive part of Spotify Family, with content specifically for younger children.
- Apple Music:
Apple Music’s family plan also allows up to six members to share the same account. The primary account holder can set up explicit content filtering for each family member, ensuring that they only listen to clean versions of songs. Apple Music also includes anything you might have in your iTunes collection, including music you purchased from Apple.
- Google Play Music:
Google Play Music offers a family plan that allows up to six members to share the same account. The primary account holder can set up explicit content filtering for each family member, ensuring that they only listen to clean versions of songs.
- Amazon Music Unlimited:
Amazon Music Unlimited offers a family plan that allows up to six members to share the same account. The primary account holder can set up explicit content filtering for each family member, ensuring that they only listen to clean versions of songs.
- Deezer:
Deezer offers a family plan that allows up to six members to share the same account. Deezer Kids is an exclusive part of Deezer Family, with content specifically for younger children.
- iHeartRadio:
iHeartRadio Family lets parents control what their kids are listening to and block playback of explicit music.
All these services offer parental control features such as explicit content filtering and age-appropriate content for children. They also allow multiple users access to streaming services without having to pay the full price for multiple individual subscriptions.
Those are a few worth considering. I’d love to hear your feedback.
