One of the fastest growing concerns for law enforcement agencies such as the FBI is the issue of Phishing. It’s been happening for years but has become an increasing threat to anyone with a digital device.
Phishing is the practice of sending fraudulent emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. In the past, it might be an email from what appears to be your bank asking you to confirm your password for your account. You click a hyperlink in the text and you then enter the information requested.
When you follow those instructions, malware is downloaded onto your phone or PC which often gives control of your device – and your account to the perpetrator.
Who would be so naïve to do such a thing? The answer is thousands of people.
This video will help you better understand the practice and also how to protect yourself from this digital threat. When you’ve completed the video, you might also want to read information from the following links.
