A few parents and students have asked me about a new streaming platform called reelshort.com and its corresponding app, ReelShort. I recently reviewed the site/app to evaluate its content, family friendliness, and ease of use. Below is a quick overview of the platform.
ReelShort is a short-form video streaming platform that offers a unique experience similar to TikTok or YouTube Shorts. The app features a collection of somewhat well-crafted and, at times, captivating videos spanning a broad spectrum of genres, including drama, comedy, and thrilling genres. The app is free to download and use, but users can only indulge in a limited number of free videos daily. Alternatively, users can opt for coin purchases to unlock more content.

The term “family-friendly” depends on your family. For example, The Manson Family differs from the Addams Family, unlike the Partridge Family. But, all kidding aside, I thought some of the content to be PG13 and, in some cases, R-rated.
Regardless of the content, the programs cater to iOS and Android users — but can also be used on laptops and desktops running Windows. The minimum age requirement for app usage is 13 years.
According to other user reviews, the app’s content is engaging and entertaining, but the free viewing cap is somewhat restrictive. Intrusive and bothersome ads might detract from the overall experience. The cost associated with purchasing coins can be on the steep side. Some users have voiced concerns about the acting quality in specific videos.
Although I have not watched every video available, the app’s content has no nudity or foul language to my knowledge. However, there are scenes with significant sexual activity and scenarios, albeit without full nudity.
I spent about 20 years in the production industry, and the audio, lighting, and cinematography are often well done. However, I cannot say that acting always matches the production quality.
You can watch ReelShort videos offline. According to the app’s description on Google Play Store, you can download content directly to your device to enjoy it offline. Some might find it valuable to keep up with their shows during commutes or in areas with limited connectivity.
According to user reviews, the most significant concerns about ReelShort are the restrictive free viewing cap and the comparatively high coin prices.
Do I recommend this program for children under 16? No! But again, it depends on your family.
