Have you ever been outdoors on a beautiful summer day and witnessed kids totally oblivious to their surroundings? A few years ago, Mary Beth and I were at the Grand Tetons and saw the tug between nature and technology, and technology was winning against so many families. Fortunately, the connectivity was so bad that most kids surrendered to nature.
We have all realized that too much screen time is damaging our kids, and the science is catching up.
Channel 12 in Cincinnati recently asked me to advise parents on screen time based on a study involving nearly 300,000 children worldwide. The study showed that excessive screen use is linked to increased anxiety, aggression, and low self-esteem. It’s not just about how long they’re online—it’s also about what they’re doing and why. Kids often turn to screens to cope with emotional struggles, which can create a vicious cycle.
Let’s help them reclaim their time, focus, and well-being.
